Abstract

I was fortunate as a young boy to have had the opportunity of viewing at close hand some of the distinguished buildings of Cape Town in the mid-20th century. I had contracted polio as an infant and the medical treatment I underwent subsequently required me to have physiotherapy three times a week for a number of years. Such treatment was not as accessible then as it has become today and I had to travel to town to the establishment in St George's Street of Miss Betty Hutton.
