Abstract

Books have always been my closest companions. The art of reading did not come particularly early, but once established it has proved my greatest pleasure. Until I was able to read for myself and even after this, our parents read our favourite books to my sister and me : , and - how I loved . Quite our favourite tale was the highly improbable adventures of a young polar bear from Greenland to the Congo. by Raymond Jackberns ran it a close second and comprised a domestic drama of a pet rat Alcibiades.
