In the early 1900s, before his marriage, my father bought a set of Bowler lithographs [Thomas Bowler, active at the Cape in the 1830s and later, left a legacy of artworks]. These, in their original dark oak frames and sombre mounts, have hung in the family home, now mine, ever since. They were, and are, part of my life.
