Abstract

The medical management of paediatric rheumatic diseases has undergone dramatic changes in the last decades; in particular, more effective use of available classic drugs and the application of newly discovered drugs have been responsible for much of this improvement. The current therapies available to us will undoubtedly change the outcomes for patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in the coming decades.

In this article, advancing insights in the outcome of JIA are reviewed, and new developments in effective anti-inflammatory and immune therapies for children with severe forms of JIA are discussed.
