Abstract

Asthma is the most common chronic illness in children in low and middle income countries (LMICs) including Africa, with prevalence rates that are similar or higher than those in high income countries. In these areas, the prevalence of childhood asthma is increasing and is associated with more severe disease than in high income countries. Therefore availability of effective, affordable therapy for asthma is essential to ensure adequate control of disease and treatment of exacerbations.
