Abstract

Over the past 11 years I have answered questions submitted online by concerned parents to the Paediatric Forum on Health 24. Many of these questions concern allergic children. How wonderful it is to be able to refer most of these children to an allergologist close to where they live, in whatever part of South Africa they may be. Of course, it was not always like this and for far too long, despite the high prevalence of allergic disorders in South Africa, allergology struggled for recognition. It is unfortunate that to this day there are some health science faculties that still fail to provide adequate training in allergology.
