Abstract

This is the fifth in our series on primary immunodeficiency. The previous four articles followed the story of three-year-old Anathi, who had X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA). The story of Dr Good heart's next patient involves a true emergency in PID - Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID). All doctors should be alert to the early recognition and management of this condition as SCID can be cured with human stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
