Seafood allergy occurs in about one per cent of the population and is more common in adults than in children. It tends to be a lifelong problem in most patients. It is more common in areas where there is a high consumption of fish and seafood such as Scandinavia and Australasia. Seafood allergy is an important cause of anaphylaxis.
