Abstract

This article emphasises developing countries ought to be studied in terms of their adequacy to their own reality. The author argues that the interrelated- ness of development and rights needs to be clearly understood. Clearly the value of human rights cannot be fully estimated without making allowance for the socioeconomic and political context of a particular situation. Above all the primary importance of human rights in development dare not be doubted in the light of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The goal is and remains the self-actualisation of all people through the universal, constant implementation of their fundamental rights, regardless of their level of de- velopment.
