Pacemaker patients with MI should also be treated with aspirin The effect that pacemakers have on cardiac rhythm and EEG makes the diagnosis of myocardial infarction more difficult. This may explain why patients with pacemakers relatively seldom receive tried and tested drugs such as aspirin or beta-blockers in the event of a myocardial infarction - a situation that may unnecessarily worsen their prognosis. These observations and conclusions were made by S.S. Rathore, et al.1 in a retrospective study of 102 249 Medicare clients who had received treatment for acute myocardial infarction. Of these patients, 1 954 (1.9%) used a pacemaker. ..
