Abstract

The basic layout of a nuclear power station is descriptionbed. Two aspects with which the civil engineer is concerned, but which lie outside the field of standard practice, namely radiation shielding and reactor containment, are discussed. These are unconventional problems inasmuch as the basic requirement is the protection against irradiation of personnel and of the public.
