He readily admits that he tends to pile too much on his plate. 'I sometimes think I can take on just one more important thing, and then I find myself stretched for time,' says Johan de Koker, SAICE's president for 2008. Yet, what he perceives as a flaw in his make-up is a quality that is valued and admired by his contemporaries in the engineering profession. To quote colleague George Fanourakis, 'Johan generously devotes significant amounts of his time to matters that advance others, without expecting anything in return. He is one of the most unselfish people that I have ever known.'
