Abstract

A minimum strength for single test results is an essential part of any specification for the strength of concrete. Attempts to change specifications to avoid the necessity of enforcing a minimum for single results have failed. A great deal of superfluous sophistication has been used in these attempts. If use is made of the minimum acceptable strength for single results it is possible to draw up a specification which is reasonable and simple to understand. Published results have been analysed in order to support proposals for a specification similar in most respects to that of the ACI Standard Building Code.
