Abstract

The Metolong Dam Pedestrian Bridge in Lesotho was commissioned by the Metolong Authority and is the first multi-span pre-stressed concrete ribbon bridge to be built in Africa. The bridge, which is 249 m long by 50 m high, was designed by Jeffares & Green as part of the Lowlands Waterworks Joint Venture for the Metolong Authority. It provides a crossing point for the local communities on either side of the Phuthiatsana River who were previously divided by the tail waters of the new Metolong Dam.
