Abstract

The paper outlines how the Cape Town foreshore came into being as a result of land reclamations since 1846 and the recent construction of the Duncan Dock. The planning of the foreshore by town planning consultants and joint technical committees during the years 1940 to 1947 is descriptionbed. The works to be carried out by the South African Railways in accordance with the foreshore plan are estimated to cost over 10,000,000, and a brief descriptionption of these works, together with some estimated costs is given.
