Abstract

'n Wiskundige ontwerpprosedure is opgestel vir die ontwerp van divergente kanaaloorgange met superkritiese stroming, waar daar van 'n gekromde geutbodem in die oorgang gebruik gemaak word. As gevolg van die gekromde bodem versprei die straal vinniger sywaarts as in plat bodern oorgange en dit kan aansienlike besparings op die lengte van die oorgang teweegbring. Bevredigende resultate is dan ook verkry vanuit skaalmodelle wat volgens die nuwe ontwerpprosedure ontwerp en gebou is.

A mathematical design procedure has been developed for the design of divergent channel transitions for supercritical flow. A curved bed is used in the transition zone.The curvature of the bed causes the stream to spread sideways more rapidly than in transitions with flat beds with the result that significant savings can be made in the length of required transitions. Satisfactory results were obtained with scale models designed and constructed according to the new design procedure.
