Abstract

Following discussion in the international literature on the benefits of using controlled permeability formliner (CPF) to increase potential concrete durability; a test programme was carried out to investigate such a material when used with South African materials. Durability indices such as air permeability, chloride ion diffusivity and abrasion resistance were determined using samples made from two grades of concrete, both with and without the use of CPF. The results from the programme indicate that the use of CPF is an effective means of obtaining a marked improvement in potential concrete durability.

Besprekings in die internasionale literatuur oor die voordele van beheerde deurlatendheidbekistingvoering (BDB) om die potensiele duursaamheid van beton te verhoog, het aanleiding gegee tot 'n toetsproram om so 'n materiaal te ondersoek wanneer dit saam met Suid-Afrikaanse materiale gebruik word. Duursaamheidsindekse soos lugdeurlatendheid, chloriedioondiffusiwiteit en skuurbestandheid is vir monsters gemaak van twee grade beton vasgestel, beide met en sonder die gebruik van BDB. Die uitslag van die program dui aan dat BDB effektief is om betonduursaamheid merkbaar te verbeter.
