This lavishly illustrated issue of presents three research articles, the first of which is written by seasoned art-historian Brenda Schmahmann. It deals with sculpted portraits of Cecil John Rhodes, acquired by Rhodes University and the University of Cape Town in the early twentieth century. The article focuses on the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of the two works and how they have been negotiated in a post-apartheid context.
