Abstract

Italy has just inaugurated what is according to Dr. Errico Laporta, president of a section of the Corte Suprema di Cassazione (the highest court of appeal) the most sophisticated computerised legal reference system in the world. In a matter of a few minutes, an Italian judge can consult any of some 100 000 decided cases. What is more, he can also find whether there have been any decisions on any given legal question and obtain a printout of the relevant decision(s).
