The apparent lack of developing basic- and integrated process skills of secondary school biology learners, triggered this investigation. Although the development of process skills of school learners is a required outcome of and therefore an integral part of natural- and life science teaching, it is often neglected in the South African classroom. In an attempt to determine why this is so, a questionnaire was compiled and subsequently completed by 98 biology teachers in Gauteng Province.
