Abstract

«How 'inhuman' was the Serbian Despot of Ioannina, Thomas Preljubovič 1367-1384)?» Based on the information, provided by the two versions of the Chronicle of Ioannina, this article examines the controversy around the personality of the Serbian Thomas Preljubovič. It analyses his actions in the framework of his duties as army leader and political ruler with special attention to his ambition to draw a parallel between himself, as Albanoktonos (killer of the Albanians), and the Byzantine emperor, Basil II, as Boulgaroktonos (killer of Boulgarians).
