Abstract

Anatomy of a theological ideology : support of the "Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk" for the ideology of apartheid
This article explores the support of the "Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika" (NHKA) for the ideology of apartheid. Official documents of this church are examined within the framework of changing accents in Afrikaner nationalism. Attention is also given to the unitary vision of people (volk) and church, and later of race and church. The theological and historical legitimisation of apartheid and of its own racial church law further the understanding of this specific church's ideological practice.
