Abstract

In April, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a positive opinion on the safety of steviol glycosides - the sweet components of the stevia leaf - to be used as food additives. The announcement has fueled interest in stevia, a natural, zero-calorie sweetener, in both the food industry and among consumers in Europe.
