Abstract

In South Africa, new legislation is passed nearly every day. However, only a handful of these new acts have the effect of completely revolutionising or revamping an industry. Examples of such acts include the Labour Relations Act, which in 1996 completely reversed the relationship between employers and employees when it handed far more rights to employees, and in addition the National Credit Act, which in 2007 (when it became operational), led to consumers in respect of credit agreements being afforded extensive protection against the actions of unscrupulous credit providers.
