Abstract

Generic medicines have often been cited as a route to affordable treatments, providing access to health care in the developing world. Indian pharmaceutical companies, known as the 'pharmacy of the developing world', supply 50 per cent of the world's anti-retroviral treatments for AIDS, and 90 per cent of essential generics for the needs of the developing world.
