Abstract

The George Municipality initiated a water resource study in 2005, with the main purpose being to augment the water supply to George in terms of the municipality's strategic planning for the next 20 years. In 2006, the City of George faced an extreme drought, with the Garden Route Dam at 42% and no end in sight to the drought. This drought further emphasised the urgent need for augmentation. The rapid growth of development in the region added further pressure to solve the situation for the short term until more extensive bulk water augmentation schemes could be put in place.
