Abstract

Alison Davison studied zoology and biochemistry at Rhodes and Potchefstroom universities. After a short period in the health sector, Davison joined the environmental sector in 1999. She worked in the waste management sector in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning from 2003 to 2007. She then moved to the City of Cape Town as head of waste minimisation, where she works to ensure the implementation of waste minimisation in Cape Town. She was chairperson of the Western Cape Waste Minimisation and Recycling Interest Group (WMRIG) of the IWMSA from 2008 to July 2010, and is still active in the WMRIG committee. Davison enjoys contributing to and seeing the growth of sustainable waste management practices in South Africa.
