South African beat poet Sinclair Beiles first emerged on the international literary scene in Paris in the 1950s. The 1960s-1970s were spent in almost continual travel, before he settled down in Yeoville, Johannesburg, where he died in 2000. It was at his house in Yeoville that Gary Cummiskey spoke to him in mid-1994. Burroughs, Ginsberg and Corso have also since died.
