This issue celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of 's inception in 1974. The year 2004 also marks Rhodes University's Centenary, so this issue of the journal is special for two important reasons. Appropriately, it features a series of articles that go to the heart of what has attempted to do from the start: publish detailed research on unexplored areas in African literatures in English.
