Abstract

The Protection of State Information Bill, known in many quarters as the Secrecy Bill, must take the prize for one of the most controversial pieces of draft legislation since the advent of our democracy. The Bill was finally passed by Parliament a few weeks ago, on April 25, some five years after it was first introduced (under the then Minister for Intelligence, Ronnie Kasrils). It now awaits President Zuma's signature before it becomes law.
