Death by tobacco: the single most preventable cause of death in the world today. Mauritius has become a world leader for tobacco control in Africa. The country has taken significant steps to fulfill its obligations under the FCTC and in 2007 government, in collaboration with the WHO and several other stakeholders, developed a National Action Plan on Tobacco Control 2008-2012. A Draft National Action Plan for Tobacco Control (2014-2017) is in preparation.
