Abstract

If you've heard rain on your roof this year, count yourself lucky. If your garden is growing, you are truly blest. Farmers in the Eastern Cape are now experiencing their worst drought in a century. Over the last year and more, dams which have not been dry in living memory have become mere dust pools. We hear of farmers selling up, even committing suicide in despair as the months pass without relief.
