Abstract

This study proposes a numerical model for the conversion of solar energy from sunlight to mechanical energy of the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). The model has the following elements: a solar resources model, a solar collector model, a storage model and the Organic Rankine Cycle model. 

The study results prove the validity and potential of the type of power plant models from outputs. Based on the study's outcome, the model from popular Microsoft Excel™ provided some realistic tools with which to analyse the variations in geometrical properties with thermo-physical properties for a period. Knowledge gained from the review of the literature and the study results reveal that the ORC power plant is an alternative to renewable energy generation. The paper also points to further modifications and derivations as applied to the area of interest for model development.
