Ethical leadership is important for building an organisational justice culture, which in turn plays a key role in attitude formation and performance, and can lead to a competitive advantage for many firms. In light of this, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between altruism, integrity, ethical leadership and organisational justice. A theoretical model and hypotheses were developed to explain the structural relationships among the latent variables. A sample of 224 employees was drawn from several organisations in South Africa. All the measurement scales demonstrated satisfactory reliability. The content and structure of the constructs were examined using confirmatory factor analysis, which produced acceptable fit for both the measurement and the structural models. Structural equation modelling (SEM) revealed positive relationships between altruism and ethical leadership; between integrity and ethical leadership; and between ethical leadership and organisational justice. Recommendations for future research and the enhancement of an organisational justice culture are proposed.
