This article presents the findings of a project undertaken by Urban-Econ Development Economists, commissioned by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR). It seeks to provide a picture of the profile of business incubation support services across South Africa, particularly in relation to the proposed Farmer Production Support Units (FPSUs) to be developed as part of the Agri-parks programme, as well as businesses from the National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) programme. Results show that in limited instances, agriculture-related incubators are present in close proximity to FPSUs, allowing for opportunities to negotiate partnerships with such incubators. Furthermore, it is recommended that NARYSEC and non-agricultural businesses in rural areas negotiate partnerships with related incubators.
