Abstract

There are many articles and research papers currently being written about the Fourth Industrial Revolution, more commonly referred to as 4IR. As always, there are those who see this revolution in a very positive light, and all the opportunities it will bring, and those who see this in a negative light, and constantly lead with statements such as, “The Robots are coming for your Jobs”. To take the robots’ side on this controversial topic, I firmly believe that no robot can ever take a person’s job away – well, not on their own. I say this as I have never come across any robot actively applying on its own for any job in an organisation! Adopting robotics, automation or AI into the workplace is a decision that always has to be made by a human being, normally those C-level executives who constantly make decisions, ensuring the sustainability and profitability of the organisation. So, it’s time to stop blaming technology for being just what it is – technology. How we choose to use it is of course, a whole other story.
