Using insects as a protein source has ancient roots and is still a standard practice in many African and Asian countries; it has never seemed necessary to distinguish between consuming insects from consuming other food sources. However, entomophagy, the technical term for the practice of eating insects, has only recently been gaining traction in the Western world.
