This purpose of this study is compare pension fund management fees and costs with those of other countries as provided by the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS). The pensions system in Zimbabwe has two main elements comprising a state run social welfare system (provident fund) and a system of private, voluntary, supplementary, pensions provided through diverse arrangements and regulated by a state appointed body. The defined contribution private pension system’s retirement income depends on accumulated contributions, the investment returns earned by these contributions and the fees that are charged to individuals by pension providers. The research found that there was a need to resolve the asymmetric information problem due to the complex nature of pension contracts in particular and financial contracts in general. This was to be achieved by suspending the caveat emptor rule and its substitution by the caveat venditor rule for financial contracts.
