A reader sketches the following alleged real-life scenario. An off-duty SAPS member (let’s call him the policeman) visited a club in his private capacity. The policeman was, however, in possession of an official firearm. At the club the policeman got involved in an altercation (dispute) with a certain individual (let’s call him the attacker). The attacker attacked the policeman with a broken bottle neck. The policeman then fired one warning shot with his official firearm and told the attacker to stop. However, the attacker kept on coming towards the policeman with the broken bottle. The policeman then fired more shots of which one hit the attacker in his abdomen,* resulting in the attacker being admitted to hospital.
