Abstract

The average price of weaners (190 to 240 kg) in October 2019 was 2,4% higher than September, and 6,2% higher than the predicted price for October. The increase in the average price in October can mainly be attributed to an increase in the demand for weaners and a lower supply. Considering the prices over the past 20 years, there is a 55% chance that the average weaner price will be lower in December, compared to November. In October 2019, year-on-year, the average producer price of weaners declined by 11,9%, and Class A2/A3 and Class C2/C3 beef by 0,8% and 0,1%, respectively. Class B2/B3 beef prices increased by 0,6%. The average price of Class A2/A3 be ef was 0,8% lower in October 2019, compared Market trends to September, and 0,4% higher when compared to the predicted price. The lower price was the result of a higher supply compared to the market demand. An increase in the price of Class A2/A3 is predicted for November, and looking back at prices over the past 20 years, there is a 75% probability that they will be higher in December than in November.
