This Festschrift honours Lilly (S. J.) Nortjé-Meyer, the current General Secretary of the NTSSA. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lilly is one of the leading feminist NT scholars in South Africa. This is attested by the names of contributors to this Festschrift, many of whom are likewise leading scholars on gender and feminism in the country. The first article by Jeremy Punt, who is well known for his work on gender and the NT, provides a brief overview and valuation of Lilly’s contribution to NT studies. In the article, Punt appropriately categorises the discussion around the following main areas of focus in Lilly’s research: (1) the Gospel of John; (2) gender-criticism; (3) the family or household, which includes the topic of mothering; and (4) sex and homoeroticism in the NT and contemporary concerns. As the article demonstrates, her impact has been felt both in scholarship and society, where she has been a vocal advocate for the liberation of oppressed groups, including women, homosexuals and, more recently, animals.
