Abstract

Producers who want to keep proper records of on-farm production, are most likely using a paper- or computerbased system. I remember how my father made notes on the back of his cigarette boxes. Nowadays he uses a diary for recordkeeping. Which brings me to the difference between the systems of the past and those used today. Modern systems have seen to the drastic improvement of data extraction capability and long-term recordkeeping. The development of contemporary programs is keeping pace with improvements in scientific farming techniques. It is therefore worthwhile for producers who wish to manage their farms according to scientific principles, to implement new technology.
