Inequality is a theme which scholars and experts discuss and debate in varied perspectives. It attracts that huge attention because it is a main concern of societies anywhere in the universe, regardless of which continent. However, along with numerous aspects of inequality elsewhere in the world, Africa has problems of inequality emanating from ethnic, clan or tribal affiliations. Taking Somalia as a case study, and looking at historical and socio-political factors, I will present in this essay the nature of ethnic inequality that exists in Somalia and its impact on the unsettled conflict that is now to enter its third decade.
