Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the work of Zimbabwe‘s Organ for National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration (ONHRI) in the context of transitional justice as a pertinent development issue. This study investigates the relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, impact, and sustainability of the ONHRI in attempting to bring about national healing and reconciliation in Zimbabwe. The article adopted a largely qualitative research paradigm and is based on a robust literature review of the existing literature on the pertinent success or failure of the ONHRI. The main finding of this study indicate that the ONHRI aims at fostering reconciliation and national healing; however, complex socio-political circumstances militate against the ONHRI‘s successful implementation of meaningful reconciliation efforts to move the country forward. The main recommendation of this study is that more concerted efforts need to be made and specific conditions must be met before any talk of reconciliation proceeds.
