As an American undergraduate student who attends a predominantly white institution in the southeastern region of the United States, I am quite familiar with the situation of a university grappling with its own troubled history, particularly with issues of racism, slavery and white privilege. I recently completed my second year studying at Wake Forest University, a small liberal arts university located in the state of North Carolina.
