The model for news as a business is broken and there is no silver bullet that can fix it. I have been in discussions from Russia to the Netherlands, the UK, US and Switzerland, and no one can figure out how to make this industry profitable. Ultimately, that is the inevitable outcome of capital and the reason why the people who own news outlets have changed. While there is a crisis about ownership in the media and people are trying out various models, in my experience the media are united around two things: It is no longer about making money, because it is no longer possible to make money using media. It is about buying influence, in particular influence over the policy decisions of a government.
