Abstract

The use regenerative therapy with autologous serum (AS) or blood derived eye drops for the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca, more commonly known as dry eye syndrome (DES), is becoming increasingly popular. Females of all age groups are considered at greater risk of DES and prevalence increases with age. Furthermore, DES is associated with decreased quality of life and depression is high among these patients because some struggle to carry out even the most basic daily activities such as reading, watching television, using a computer, driving a vehicle, and working.
