Richard Branson once astutely commented, “There is no planet B. We have to take care of the one we have.” And he’s right. When it comes to the damage people, businesses and governments are doing to the planet, there is no plan B once our resources are destroyed. So it must be down to each of us to do what we can to protect the environment in which we live. Being environmentally friendly used to be regarded as a nicety in business – somewhat fluffy, something to appease environmental pressure groups, and probably rather costly and inconvenient. This is no longer the case. The evidence now shows that reducing negative impact on the planet is an increasingly important element of running a successful business. Customers are demanding more ethical and sustainable practices, and they are actively ‘buycotting’ companies that do not demonstrate them.
