Hopefully you’ve had a good rest and have returned to the workplace full of energy, bright ideas and big plans for the year ahead. Sadly, as the year starts to kick into action and the pressure starts to mount, many previously rested people turn into seriously stressed people. Some choose to just “tough it out” in the belief that stress will always be part of modern life so there’s nothing much one can do about it. There’s, however, a lot you can do to manage your stress so that it doesn’t affect your sense of wellbeing and your performance. Conducting a series of stress management workshops for the doctors and students of one of our top medical schools a few years ago forced me to wrestle with what really causes stress and how to overcome it.
