The Hell's Angels is the first group that comes to mind when one thinks about motorcycle gangs. This motorcycle club, with its mean-looking guys wearing black leather jackets and riding on their big motorcycles, founded in 1948 in California, USA, is probably the best known of the so-called "outlawed motorcycle gangs". This international club has also been accused of its members committing criminal activities, that they are dangerous bar fighters, and that law enforcement officials associated them with the manufacture and distribution of illegal drugs, especially methamphetamine. Attempts to prosecute some club members under the American Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act ended in mistrials in the early 1980s. But, despite the mistrials, the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), continues to characterise the Hell's Angels as an "outlaw motorcycle gang" in its National Gang Report (Encyclopaedia Britannica, Nd).
